*        BACKGROUND

Government College of Pharmacy, Aurangabad has been started in 1996 with the efforts of Honorable Late Shri Govindbhaiji Shroff as a part of his social obligation to which Marathwada region was awaiting. Initially it has been started as one of the Departments of Government College of Engineering. Subsequently in 1999, it has acquired the status of full-fledged Government College. The institute in its short span has established credibility to impart quality education to masses. The institute is affiliated to to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad and approved by AICTE and Government of Maharshtra. It is conducting four years B.Pharm. course with annual intake of 40 student and two year M.Pharm (Pharmaceutics) with annual intake of 18 students. The college also has approved facilities from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada Univeristy, Aurangabad for doctoral studies . The college has hostel facility for boys and girls.

 

*        FACULTY

College has 11 qualified faculty members including 5 Ph.D. and 5 M.Pharm. Apart from undergraduate teaching, the faculty members are involved in research work and have demonstrated their capabilities by publishing their research work and supporting nearby industries.

 

*        LIBRARY 

At present college library has approximately 4036 text and reference books, worth Rs. 45 Lakhs, covering a wide area of knowledge. Eight international and 22 National and 7 International Journals are subscribed presently as hard copy or Internet editions.

 

*        LABORATORIES

College has seven well-equipped laboratories to cater the need of graduate students. The are equipped with modern instruments and equipments. Presently college is involved in establishing FDA approved laboratory.

 

 

*        EQUIPMENTS & EQUIPMENTS

Laboratory is equipped with advanced equipments including Freeze dryer, Spray Dryer, BOD incubators, Deep freezers, Refrigerated centrifuge, Kelvaka Multipurpose pilot equipment, Colloidal mill, Ball mill, Coating machine and facilities for Tablet, Capsule, Ointment, liquid manufacturing.

 

College has a separate instrument lab. with sophisticated instruments like Infra Red Spectrophotometer, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, Spectrophotoflurometer, DSC, HPLC, Ion chromatograph, GCMS, Rheometer, Water purification system, Polarograph with cyclic voltametry, Microwave synthesizer, KF auto titrator, Six baskets Dissolution tester, Pouch filling machine, FBD, Multimill, Extruder, Spherodizer, Oscillating granulator, Tray drier, Rapid mixer granulator, Stability chambers, Friability tester, Disintegration tester. Rotary Table Machine, Kelweka Multipurpose assembly, Colloidal mill, Super speed kymograph and operation tables, 8 Channel Polygraphs, ECG Machine, PC based spirometer, SS 48 Electronic stimulator.

 

*        ACADEMICS

College has excellent academic record at university examination level and achieved success in GATE, GRE like examinations.

 

*        GRANTS

Institute has received grants worth Rs. 50.00 lakhs under MODROB Scheme from AICTE New Delhi to modernize laboratories. The college has also received Rs. 10.00 lakhs under R & D scheme for the research project. The College has received grant of around Rs. 3.00 crors from Govt. of Mahrashtra under scheme of Maharthwada Vikas package, Backlog and Library development

 

*        COMPUTER FACILITIES

College has adequate computer facilities like internet through WLL and Broad band connection, intranet and networking. Computer laboratory is well equipped with 47 computers, LAN printer, Laser printers, scanner, LCD projectors, OHP panel, photographic equipments and digital camera with UPS, Inverters and generators as power alternatives.

 

*        SOCIAL OBLIGATIONS

The college in association with Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Local branch Aurangabad, organizes lectures, seminars, blood donation camps and celebrates National Pharmacy Week. Apart from it students of college are actively engaged in social awareness campaigns like anti tobacco and Aids awareness program. The institute plans to launch diabetes awareness campaign in coming years.

 

*        FUTURE PLAN

The institute proposes to setup R & D center along with Drug analysis, food testing. Post graduate diploma courses and certificate course in Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence and Drug regulatory affaires are likely to be started from next academic year.
